TTTC Phd Thesis Award

As part of the 11th Latin American test Workshop, we´re organizing two activities aiming to provide graduate students with an opportunity to disseminate and discuss their research with the international test community.

Ph.D. students who graduated in 2009 or will be graduating in 2010 are invited to participate in the Doctoral Thesis Award Contest.
All other graduate students (Ph.D. or M.S.) working on a test-related thesis are invited to participate in the Thesis Research Poster Session.

1) TTTC’s E.J. McCluskey Best Doctoral Thesis Award

The TTTC´s E.J. McCluskey Best Doctoral Thesis Award’s purpose is to promote most impactful doctoral student work, to provide the students with the exposure to the community and the prospective employers, and to support interaction between academia and industry in the field of test technology.
The Award winner is determined by a Doctoral Student Contest held in two stages: regional semi-finals and global finals. Semi-finals are held at the regional TTTC-sponsored technical meetings such as VTS, ETS, LATW, and ATS (called regional sites). Prospective candidates are invited to submit a summary of their work to one regional site. Qualified submissions are selected and their authors are invited to present their work at the regional site. A jury determines the winner of the semi-final. All winners of the semi-finals are invited  to the finals, where a jury determines the global Award laureate.

LATW semi-final
Ph.D. students who graduated in 2009 or will be graduating in 2010 are invited to submit a one page abstract of their thesis (maximum 750 words). A second page is allowed for references and/or figures only. Please submit a separate cover page with the student’s name and affiliation, the title of the thesis, the expected date of graduation and an endorsement by the advisor (i.e. a signed statement that he/she supports the student’s participation in the contest).

Submissions are to be made electronically through the LATW 2010 website at http://www.latw.tttc-events.org/

Please address any questions to erika@inf.ufrgs.br.

Deadline for abstract submission is February 6th, 2010.

Since the purpose of this contest is for the student to gain exposure and feedback from the industry, the abstract should clearly address the following:

  1. define the problem and its relevance to industry,
  2. describe existing industrial practices for solving the problem, and
  3. explain the proposed methodology (and any pertinent case study) and how it advances the theory and/or practice in the particular field.

The abstracts will be reviewed by a panel of industrial and academic experts. A set of finalists will be selected for the final round of the contest. Notification about the disposition of the submissions will be sent out by February 28th. The final round includes a 5-10 minute slot for oral presentation and a five minute slot for Q&A / feedback, during a dedicated session at LATW 2010.
The panel of experts will judge the presentations and the winner of the contest will receive a certificate of the regional semi-final and will be invited to participate of the contest finals.

2) Call for Abstracts -  Thesis Research Poster Session
Ph.D. students that are not participating in the Doctoral Thesis Award Contest, as well as M.S. students who are engaged in their thesis research with a faculty advisor are invited to submit a one page abstract of their research (maximum 750 words). The abstract must include the student’s name and affiliation, the title of the research project and the name of the advisor. On a second page, students must provide one or more figures that portray the key elements of their research. References can be provided on a third page if needed.

Submissions are to be made electronnically through LATW 2010 website at http://www.latw.tttc-events.org/

Deadline for abstract submission is February 6th, 2010.

This forum is designed to give students the opportunity to interact and receive feedback from industrial and academic experts. The abstract outlines the focus of their research, and the figure(s) provide a preview of the poster.  Students selected for the poster session will be notified by February 28th and asked to prepare the poster to  be presented in the workshop. Students are expected to bring the poster fully assembled to the symposium. 30-minutes posters sessions will be allocated together with the workshop coffee-breaks.
